Golden milk is a combination of turmeric powder mixed together with coconut milk and coconut oil. According to several books and magazines turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory that exhibits over 150 potentially therapeutic activities, including antimicrobial activity as well as potent anti-cancer properties. Personally, I prefer having a golden milk every once in a while, sometimes in the morning, sometimes before I go to bed. I prefer 2% milk, unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk.
I guess there is no right or wrong here, it is personal preference. Same goes for the other ingredient which is pepper: some prefer black pepper, others including myself prefer cayenne pepper. Below you’ll find my current favorite recipe for homemade golden milk. If you want a little extra, add a tiny bit of maple syrup at the end. Enjoy!
Serves 2
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk (2% milk or unsweetened almond milk are my favorites)
- ½ tbsp turmeric powder
- ½ tbsp ground cinnamon
- pinch of cayenne pepper
- honey or maple syrup to taste, optional
Method:
- Heat milk, turmeric powder, ground cinnamon and cayenne pepper in a pot on medium high heat until hot
- Split the hot milk between two mugs and add honey or maple syrup if you like, sprinkle with a little bit extra ground cinnamon, enjoy!
